Sports briefs: Vick dogs coming to bay area

Ten of the remaining 47 pit bulls seized from suspended NFL star Michael Vick’s dogfighting operation being placed with rescue organizations are coming to the Bay Area. Animal expert Rebecca J. Huss recommended the dogs be placed with eight organizations, including Bay Area Doglovers Responsible About Pit Bulls, which should receive the 10 pit bulls sometime next month.

McCown is likely starter

With Daunte Culpepper’s injured right leg keeping him out of practice, it looks like the Raiders will have Josh McCown start a second straight game on Sunday against Green Bay. Raiders coach Lane Kiffin wouldn’t say who the backup would be (JaMarcus Russell or Andrew Walter) if Culpepper is out.

Reeling Redskins get a painful win

Despite losing quarterback Jason Campbell to a dislocated patella tendon in his left knee in the second quarter and racking up just 31 rushing yards, the emotionally hurting Washington Redskins came away with a 24-16 win over the Chicago Bears. Redskins backup Todd Collins threw two TD passes. Chicago also lost its quarterback, Rex Grossman, to a knee injury.
