Sports briefs: Niners bring back Estes

The Niners waived two players and replaced them with familiar faces. The 49ers cut wide receiver Taylor Jacobs and fullback Zak Keasey and signed offensive tackle Patrick Estes and receiver Bryan Gilmore. Estes was waived the week before the season opener and Gilmore was released in the final roster cutdowns. Jacobs had three catches for 40 yards this year.

Ostrander has seizure

Stanford quarterback T.C. Ostrander suffered a seizure Sunday while watching former teammate Trent Edwards make his first NFL start for the Buffalo Bills. Ostrander was with his father at a local restaurant when he started convulsing. He fell and hit his head on a pole. The senior from Menlo-Atherton High School will not play Saturday against second-ranked Southern Cal. Sophomore Tavita Pritchard, a nephew of former NFL quarterback Jack "The Throwin’ Samoan" Thompson, will start for the Cardinal (1-3, 0-3 Pac-10 Conference) at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Ostrander was taken to Stanford hospital and had a series of tests. He was released from the hospital later Sunday after all tests came back normal. He rejoined his teammates that night on campus and will accompany the team to L.A.
