Sports briefs: Mulder returns to Cards

Remember that Mark Mulder trade, when the left-hander was the most recognizable name at the time? They should now call it the Dan Haren trade. Nevertheless, the former A’s ace will return to the St. Louis Cardinals’ starting rotation for the first time in over a year. Mulder had rotator cuff surgery before the end of last season.

Giants fall, A’s come back

Despite a solid effort by Barry Zito, Omar Vizquel and the Giants dropped a tough one to the Washington Nationals 2-1. Rich Aurilia drove in the only run fo the Giants. Meanwhile, rookie third baseman Jack Hannahan drove in the winning run in the 10th inning as the A’s erased a 7-0 lead and beat the Tigers 8-7 in 10 innings.
