Sports briefs: Geren, Elllis to remain with A's

The A’s picked up contract options for manager Bob Geren and second baseman MarkEllis, locking up Geren through 2009 and Ellis for the 2008 season. Geren didn’t have a successful campaign in his first year as manager. But in his defense, the A’s were plagued with injuries all season. Ellis has hit a career-high 19 homers this season.

Warriors sign veteran point guard Hudson

Less than a week after parting ways with Sarunas Jasikevicius, the Warriors signed veteran guard Troy Hudson to help add depth at the point guard position. "He’s had a productive NBA career and, most importantly, will provide us with additional depth in the backcourt," executive vice president of basketball operations Chris Mullin said. "He has the ability to run a team, and some of his other strengths — such as 3-point shooting — will fit in well with our style of play." Entering his 11th season, Hudson has played for Utah, the Los Angeles Clippers, Orlando and Minnesota.
