Sports briefs: Gators’ glass honored

Sophomore forward Dylan Glass has been rewarded for helping get the San Francisco State men’s soccer season off to a quick start. After scoring the Gators’ first goal of the season in the opening 3-2 win over Hawaii-Hilo and then the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Dominican, Glass was named California Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week.

Couch linked to HGH

Just when one NFL controversy seemingly has simmered down, another one gets revitalized. The issue of performance-enhancing drugs — long believed to be a problem in the league — has popped up after Yahoo.com reported quarterback Tim Couch has been linked to human growth hormone and steroids. The former No. 1 overall draft pick, who was cut last month by the Jacksonville Jaguars, told Yahoo.com he used HGH under docter supervision for about a week as he recovered from shoulder surgery. But Couch denied taking steroids or any other banned drugs. Yahoo.com reported it had obtained documents from an anonymous source with Couch’s name printed across the top that called for extensive use of drugs banned by the league.
