Sports briefs: Francis bought out

Don’t feel sorry for guard Steve Francis after hearing he was bought out of his contract. The man once known as "Stevie Franchise" was reportedly given a nice $30 million check to walk away from the Portland Trail Blazers after he was dealt from the New York Knicks on draft day. Now, Francis can sign with any team he wants. How would he look in Warriors blue?

Oklahoma must forfeit 2005 football season

Looks like that Rhett Bomar incident has finally caught up to Bob Stoops and the Oklahoma football team. Oklahoma must erase its wins from the 2005 football season — in which it went 8-4, including a Holiday Bowl victory over Oregon — and will lose two scholarships for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 school years, the NCAA said. The penalties stem from a case involving two players — including Bomar, the Sooners’ starting quarterback — who were kicked off the team in August for being paid for work they had not performed at a Norman car dealership.
