Sports briefs: Cal moves up two spots

After avoiding an upset and beating Colorado State on Saturday, DeSean Jackson and the Cal football team moved to No. 8 in the AP Top 25 poll. Southern Cal remains the top team in the nation, but No. 2 LSU, which easily beat Virginia Tech, took 19 first-place votes from the Trojans. West Virginia slipped a spot to No. 4 and defending national champion Florida took No. 5.

Ronaldinho, Brazil shine against U.S.

Brazil got two goals from its star player, Ronaldinho, and went on to beat the U.S. 4-2 in an exhibition at Chicago’s Solider Field. The Americans had their moments and entertained the crowd by taking an early lead and coming back to tie. But the United States dropped to 1-12 against Brazil and lost its fifth straight game overall, its longest skid in 13 years. "I was actually proud of how we played," Landon Donovan said. "We’re not by any standard an experienced team like they are. For us, we’re still learning."
