Sports briefs: Bond's son tears ligaments

Nikolai Bonds, Barry Bonds’ 17-year-old son and longtime bat boy for the Giants, may not be in uniform to watch his dad pass Hank Aaron on the all-time home run list. Nikolai tore two ligaments in his left ankle while attempting a dunkduring a pickup game. He’s now wearing a walking boot for the initial stage of what is expected to be a two-month recovery.

Serena comes back to advance

Just like her sister Venus did one day prior, Serena Williams avoided being upset and advanced to the third round at Wimbledon. The two-time champion rallied from 4-1 down in the first set and beat Australia’s Alicia Molik 7-6 (4), 6-3. Also winners on a day full of rain delays were Andy Roddick (beating Thailand’s Danai Udomchoke 6-4, 7-6 (3)) and Justine Henin (ousting Vera Dushevina of Russia 6-0, 6-4).
