Speitz’s late free throws lift USF women past UC Davis 

DAVIS -- Senior Paige Speitz made three free throws in the final seconds, including the tiebreaker with 19 ticks left, as the USF women's basketball team beat UC Davis 73-70 Tuesday.

The Dons scored the final five points of the game. Zhane Dikes made a jumper with 1 minute, 12 seconds left to tie it. Davis' Celia Marfone missed a 3-pointer with 47 seconds left before Speitz was fouled with 19 seconds to go. She missed the first try, but snapped the tie by sinking the second.

The Aggies' Alyson Doherty missed a layup and a jumper before Speitz grabbed the rebound and was fouled with 7 seconds remaining. She made both and Davis' Kelsey Harris missed a potential tying trey with 2 seconds left.

Junior Taylor Proctor led the Dons with 16 points, while sophomore Rachel Howard added 15, Dikes 13 and Spietz 12. Speitz also had a team-best seven rebounds.

USF continues its three-game road trip Sunday against Long Beach State. The Dons are off for a week before taking on Seattle.
