Speier says she won’t run for attorney general

San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris dodged a bullet in her run for California Attorney General on Tuesday.

Rep. Jackie Speier has decided to keep her seat in the House of Representatives despite polls that show her a favorite for the statewide post.

“I am thankful that so many supporters came forward to urge me to run for statewide office, but after talking it over with my family, I have decided to stay in Congress,” Speier said in a statement. “I am convinced it is the right thing to do for my family, and I believe I can best serve my constituents by remaining in Congress and working hard on consumer protection, financial reform, jobs, and health care.”

In other gossip, former Mayor Gavin Newsom press secretary Nathan Ballard is the one who sent out Speier’s press release Tuesday.

Though his quotes for Newsom were often filled with panache and creativity, the name of his new consulting firm, Nathan Ballard Communications, not so much.
