Spanish sculptures to shape up Civic Center Plaza

Civic Center Plaza will soon have some new sights: eight sculptures by Spanish artist Manolo Valdés.

"San Francisco will join the ranks of the other leading cities of the world such as Paris and New York in hosting this impressive sculpture display," Mayor Gavin Newsom said.

Newsom will lead a dedication ceremony for the exhibit April 29. It is the first time that the Arts Commission has orchestrated an ensemble of sculptures as a part of a temporary exhibition.

Temporary displays organized by the commission include a one-day installation of thousands of latex balloons over Lake Merced.
