The family of a woman who was found dead in a San Franciso General Hospital stairwell last year plans to announce today a formal claim against the city and county of San Francisco.

Represented by attorney Haig Harris, the family of Lynne Spalding is scheduled to announce the claim filing at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Scampini, Montara & Harris Conference Room at 220 Montgomery St., Suite 800 in San Francisco.

Spalding, 57, was a patient who was reported missing from her room at San Francisco General Hospital 17 days before her body was found in a locked stairwell.

To date, no charges have been filed against personnel of the hospital or Sheriff’s Department.

The hospital announced in January that various fixes and plans were put in place following the death of Spalding. Despite the new security efforts, attorneys for Spalding’s family claim such measures have been ineffective.
