Spa wins approval for foot massage service in Castro

A day spa and hair-and-nail salon with a risqué name will offer foot massages in the Castro district.

The San Francisco Planning Commission last week approved plans to offer foot massages at Hand Job.

Commissioners were told that the establishment, which opened at 565 Castro Street in August, does not offer sexual services.

“Your marketing is very effective,” Commissioner Gwyneth Borden said. “When I was in the Castro, I noticed your establishment because of the name and I got a good chuckle. Your place looks nice, it’s a legitimate business and you’re doing nails, so I think the name is very fitting.”

The commission has no control over business names, Commission President Ron Miguel said.
