Southern U. defeats Alabama A&M 75-69 in overtime 

Quinton Doggett scored 21 points and Southern University defeated Alabama A&M 75-69 in overtime on Saturday.

Tied at 61 after regulation, it went back and forth for the first 2 minutes of overtime.

Southern (9-11, 5-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) trailed 67-66 with 2:22 left before Jameel Grace hit a 3 to put the Jaguars up for good, 69-67, with 1:50 remaining.

Southern then went 6 of 8 from the free-throw line in the last 1:25. The Bulldogs (3-12, 1-5) turned it over twice and went 1 for 2 from the field in the final 2 minutes.

The Jaguars shot 77.4 percent from the free-throw line (24 of 31), including 8 of 10 in overtime.

Derick Beltran added 18 points, Michael Celestin 12 points and Grace 11 for Southern.

The Bulldogs were led by Casey Cantey with 17 points and Demarquelle Tabb with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
