Southern U coasts to 68-56 win over Alabama State 

Quinton Doggett and Derick Beltran scored 17 points each to lead Southern University to a 68-56 Southwestern Athletic Conference victory over Alabama State on Monday night.

Jameel Grace added 16 points for the Jaguars (10-11, 6-2), including a pair of 3-pointers to start an 18-5 run that gave Southern a 30-18 lead with 5:08 remaining in the first half.

Leading 35-27 at halftime, the Jaguars began the second half with a jumper by Cameron Monroe and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way. They had a 20-point advantage, 54-34, with 10:28 left after two consecutive baskets by Doggett.

Ivory White scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Hornets (7-12, 4-3), who shot 33.3 percent (18 of 54) to Southern's 54.2 percent (26 of 48).

Doggett blocked six shots and grabbed eight rebounds for Southern, and Grace had five assists.
