Sound of breaking glass tips cops off to Balboa Park-area thefts, vandalism 

Several windows were smashed and cars broken into near the Balboa Park area this week among San Francisco crimes.

Circular and Hearst avenues
10:50 p.m. Monday

Several officers responded to multiple complaints of vandalism and theft, police said. After hearing several instances of glass breaking, residents called police to report their cars broken into. A woman who lived nearby in the 500 block of Monterey told police a window in her home had been broken as well. Police detained and witnesses positively identified one of two suspects in the car break-ins. Police believe the vandalism of the house was related.

Civic Center Plaza
Midnight Wednesday

A 37-year-old man was punched in the face and robbed, police said. The unknown suspect went through the victim’s pockets after punching him and stole his cash. The victim was treated at the hospital for a small laceration above his eye. No arrest has been made.

24th and Cypress streets
6:15 p.m. Tuesday

Two goons in their 20s ambushed and robbed a man, police said. The 27-year-old victim was knocked to the ground and the two goons stole his wallet, cash and ID. The victim was not seriously injured and no arrests have been made.

Persia Avenue and Paris Street
6:45 p.m. Monday

A woman’s cellphone was snatched from her on Muni, police said. The crook and an accomplice fled the bus on foot. Police detained six possible suspects but none were positively identified as the thieves.
