Some in region fret that Egypt's revolution caught U.S. flat footed

A number of Pakistani officials and Egyptian scholars are surprised at how surprised the White House has appeared to have been by the Egyptian revolution.

"Even though the US could see the discontent among the people, it is my belief that they didn't expect the people to rise against the government the way they did," said a Pakistani official, this week.  "Of course, everyone is concerned, even in Pakistan. These are remarkable times and everything is changing."
A number of top Pakistani officials expressed open surprise that the administration appeared to be a step slow in responding to events.
A U.S. Official disagreed saying "the intelligence community had issued more than 400 reports on instability, but its not easy to determine what will cause these situations to boil over."
