Some business fees eliminated

It’s not often you hear about The City cutting fees, especially during a deficit year, but on Tuesday the Board of Supervisors did just that.

The board voted 10-0 Tuesday in a second and final vote on legislation introduced by Board of Supervisors President David Chiu that eliminates a number of fees charged to small businesses.

“Many of us have been thinking about both how we as a city can be more fiscally responsible as well as things we can do as a city to make it easier for business during these tough economic times,” Chiu said last week. “This is a measure that would eliminate several dozen fees that are currently being levied on many businesses around town, particularly small businesses.”

Chiu has said that this one of the first of other steps coming to “make life easier for businesses” in San Francisco.
