Snow advisory: Up to 3 inches possible in East, North Bay hills

A snow advisory for Bay Area hills and mountains is in effect until 10 a.m. today, according to the National Weather Service.

Accumulating snow is expected, particularly in the Santa Cruz Mountains and the hills and mountains in the East Bay and North Bay, and has prompted weather officials to extend the advisory. Additional snow totals of two to three inches are possible in areas above 2,000 feet and dusting of up to one inch is possible in areas between 1,500 feet and 2,000 feet.

The National Weather Service warns that periods of snow will cause travel difficulties and advises commuters to be prepared for low visibility and snow-covered roads at higher elevations.
