SMC Sheriff's Office seeks help finding sex assault suspect

The San Mateo County's Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's assistance in finding a creep who inappropriately touched a woman as she was jogging on the coastal trail in El Granada on Tuesday, Deputy Rebecca Rosenblatt said in a statement Wednesday.

The woman was jogging on the trail near Magellan Avenue and Mirada Road about 6:45 p.m. when a man ran past her, turned around and caught up to the victim and then touched her lower torso in an inappropriate manner, Rosenblatt said. He then fled southbound on Magellan Avenue.

Arriving deputies conducted an extensive search of the area but came up empty-handed.

The suspect is described as being a Hispanic male, 18 to 22 years old, about 5-foot-4 with a slight to medium build, no facial hair and dressed in a gray, hooded sweatshirt and faded black jeans.

Anyone with information on the possible identity and location of the suspect is encouraged to call Detective John Carroll at (650) 259-2313 or by email at jcarroll@smcgov.org. Tips can also be given anonymously at (800) 547-2700.
