Small Business Adminstration awards 4 local businesses 

Amid the doom and gloom surrounding San Francisco’s small business community, here is a glimmer of good news: The Small Business Administration is handing out four awards to local businesses.

The U.S. Small Business Administration today announced the winners of the 2010 Small Business Week awards, including an online marketing company, the organizer of a women’s advocacy group and a lender who is focused on assisting low income communities.

Here are the following awards:

Small business person of the year: Janine Popick, CEO and founder of VerticalResponse

Women in business advocate of the year award: Barbara Kasoff, president of Women Impacting Public Policy

Financial services advocate of the year award: Katy Johnson with Wells Fargo Bank

Minority business advocate of the year: Denise Coley, director of Global Supplier Diversity Business Development, Cisco Systems, Inc.
