Slain salon owner's husband arrested

The husband of a woman found dead in her Marina district beauty salon in San Francisco earlier this month has been arrested for her murder.

San Francisco police believe Jeff Nguyen, 39, bludgeoned 37-year-old Mai Banh to death in Le Petit Salon on Chestnut Street. Nguyen was taken into custody Thursday night in San Leandro, where he lives.

Nguyen led investigators to Banh's body at 10 p.m. on April 15, telling them he had found her dead in the salon, police reported.

But investigators say evidence found in the salon, as well as Nguyen's home and vehicle, led to his arrest.

He remains in custody in San Francisco County Jail facing one count of murder. The couple's two sons, ages 4 and 8, were placed in the custody of Alameda County Child Protective Services, police reported.

Homicide detectives are urging anyone who had an appointment with Banh the weekend of April 14-15 to contact them at (415) 552-1145. Anyone with information in the case can also call the confidential tip line at (415) 575-4444.
