Slack key revisionist Makana has a 'Different Game'

Makana has been called the youngest living master of Hawaiian slack-key guitar, but he’s also taken the genre one step further by pioneering his own style of contemporary world rock, which he calls "slack rock."

A favorite in Hawaii, where he’s been bestowed with multiple music awards, he has opened for the likes of Santana and Sting. He just released his fourth album, "Different Game," and is touring California, with a few Bay Area stops.

He appears at 8 and 10 tonight at Biscuits & Blues, 410 Mason St., San Francisco. Tickets are $15. Call (415) 292-2583 or visit www.biscuitsandblues.com.

On Sunday, he plays at 7 p.m. at the Little Fox, 2209 Broadway, Redwood City. Tickets are $14 to $16. Call (650) 369-4119 or visit www.foxdream.com.
