Slack-key master returning to San Francisco

Makana, the slack-key guitarist, singer and songwriter, is returning to the City for two performances this Thursday, showcasing a range of genres including Hawaiian slack-key, bluegrass, celtic, open-tuning blues, folk and rock.

A protégé of the slack-key masters, Makana is considered the youngest living master of Hawaiian slack-key guitar and a pioneer in his own style of contemporary world rock. Makana has toured England, Japan, China, Germany, Canada, Tahiti, Bali and throughout the U.S. He is regularly featured at slack-key festivals and as a headliner throughout the Hawaiian Islands. His music has been featured in major motion pictures and independent films, as well as environmental and educational documentaries.

Makana’s shows will be at Biscuits & Blues, at 401 Mason Street, on Thursday at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Cover is $15, plus a two-drink minimum. For more information, call (415) 292-BLUES (2583) or visit www.biscuitsandblues.com.
