Shots fired before fire, explosion destroy NH home

Shots were fired just before a fire and explosion raged through a home in southern New Hampshire Monday afternoon.

WMUR-TV reports that one officer was shot and is in serious condition.

Multiple agencies responded to a suburban duplex home in Brentwood shortly after 4 p.m. Monday after a shooting was reported.

State police told numerous media outlets that the shooting involved a police officer.

Video coverage shows flames burning through the roof of the house and WMUR showed an explosion that punched out the front of the house shortly after 5:30. Firefighters were kept away from the scene and within minutes of the explosion the house was engulfed in flames. Firefighters finally got near the scene and started attacking the blaze around 6 p.m.

Calls to the Rockingham County sheriff's office and state police were not immediately returned.
