Shooting near Union Square nightclub kills one, injures two

One woman was killed and two people injured near Union Square following a shooting Sunday night, according to the San Francisco Police Department.

Police originally reported that at least two people were shot near the intersection of Geary and Mason streets, later it was confirmed that three people were shot. The other two victims — a man and a woman — were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, a police spokesman said.

A fire department dispatcher said the shooting occurred near the Ruby Skye Nightclub, located at 400 Mason St. However, police say the nightclub did not play a role in the violence because it was closed Sunday.

Bay City News contributed to this report.
