SFPD talks medical marijuana enforcement

While growing and selling marijuana for medical purposes may be legal in California, that hasn’t stopped San Francisco police from busting more than 70 grow houses in the past year.

Police and fire officials say they have concentrated their efforts on illegal grow houses where they say amateurish electrical wiring creates a fire hazard for neighboring buildings. Sometimes, medical marijuana advocates say police go to far.

Police are expected to give a presentation regarding the “SFPD Medicinal Marijuana Policy” to the Police Commission. The meeting is at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall.
