SFPD says 50 percent of homicides solved this year

So far this year there have been 28 homicides and the San Francisco Police Department has solved 50 percent, or 14 of them, according to Capt. Michael Biel, who presented the most recent crime statistics to the Board of Supervisors Public Safety Committee during a Monday morning hearing at City Hall.

The department has in the past received criticism for not solving homicide cases.

The number of homicides is down this year compared with recent years, Biel reported. There were 29 at this time last year and the year before that 60.
