SFPD arrests man suspected in two Bayview shootings 

San Francisco police today announced the arrest of Marckys Mendez, a 20-year-old San Bruno resident, in connection with recent shootings in the Bayview district.

Mendez is suspected to have shot two people July 6 in the 1700 block of La Salle Avenue. Both victims were taken to San Francisco General Hospital. One of the victims, 37-year-old San Francisco resident Antonio Cortez, died at the hospital, while the second victim is expected to survive, according to police.

Mendez is also suspected of being involved in a second shooting that occurred July 6 in the first block of Cameron Way. Two victims were shot during the incident; one was found by police at the scene and the other was later located at SFGH.

Both victims in the Cameron Way shooting are expected to survive, according to police.

Mendez was booked into County Jail on one count of murder, three counts of attempted murder, a probation violation and being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition.

Investigations into both shooting incidents are ongoing. Police ask that anyone with information about the shootings call (415) 575-4444 or text-a-tip to TIP411 with "SFPD" at the start of the message.
