SFMOMA to display Fishers’ modern art collection in June

A sample of Doris and the late Don Fisher’s collection of modern art is planned be shown at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in June.

Before his recent death, Fisher controversially proposed building a new museum in the Presidio National Park to house the collection. That plan, however, was dumped last year.

SFMOMA is investigating potential properties in SoMa where it could display the work and a decision on a location is expected to be made in February, according to museum spokeswoman Libby Garrison.

“We’re basically looking at any and all possibilities,” Garrison said.

In the meantime, the museum is organizing an exhibition of 175 pieces from the collection, according to Garrison.

The exhibition will be displayed on the museum’s fourth and fifth floors and on the rooftop from June 25 to Sept. 17, according to Garrison.
