SFFD to honor Sept. 11 victims

Joanne Hayes-White, the chief of the San Francisco Fire Department, will participate in a citywide remembrance ceremony for the emergency personnel and civilians who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

A ceremony will be held at each of the department’s 42 stations. The event will include lowering the flag to half staff, observing a minute of silence and reading the names of the 343 New York Fire Department firefighters who died. Anyone wishing to participate may do so at their local fire station, according to the department.
