Residents were evacuated from a building in the Tenderloin neighborhood Tuesday night after a 3-alarm fire broke out on the first floor.

The fire on the 200 block of Eddy Street was reported around 8:56 p.m., according to a police department spokesperson.

The fire appeared to be concentrated on the first floor with flames and smoke spreading through the building, the spokesperson said.

At least six people were reported in need of medical attention, but there was no information on their conditions Tuesday as of press time.

The cause of the fire was not immediately available. Heavy smoke and traffic delays were reported in the area, with residents asked to use alternate routes.
