SF Zoo to announce name for new red panda 

The San Francisco Zoo is welcoming a new red panda next week. The 10-month-old male red panda will be on display to the public for the first time May 10.

The panda has yet to be named, but the name will be announced on May 7 during a special viewing for members of the zoo's Guardian program. S.F. Zoo emeritus board member Barry Lipman and his wife, Marie, pledged $31,000 to secure naming rights for the young panda.

The red panda will live in a brand-new enclosure built specially for him by Pete Nelson of Animal Planet's "Treehouse Masters," a show dedicated to showcasing unusual treehouses. Nelson will attend the panda's debut on May 7 to discuss the construction of the enclosure. Animal Planet will also air an episode of "Treehouse Masters" dedicated to the construction of the panda's enclosure in June.
