SF students send $100 bill art for Katrina relief

San Francisco students are shipping off a bank box filled with more than 2,000 artistic renditions of the $100 bill to the nation’s Capitol today.

Students will deliver the box to a waiting truck today at noon. Bay Area musician Marcus Shelby, who has been working with Rooftop as they study New Orleans jazz, will lead the community in a second line parade to deliver the box to the truck.

Rooftop students have been studying elements of New Orleans culture. The event is part of the Fundred Project, a nationwide project to raise $300 million for lead removal of New Orleans’ soil. Rooftop students chose this project as a way to connect with New Orleans and its ongoing issues post-Hurricane Katrina.
