SF police officers help resuscitate unconscious man in Sunnydale Housing Projects

Officers responding to a distress call in a San Francisco public housing complex last week resuscitated a man who was in physical distress, Officer Albie Esparza said in a statement Friday.

Ingleside police officers responded to the Sunnydale Housing Projects on Velasco Avenue about 5:19 p.m. April 16 and found a 75-year-old man unconscious on the ground on a second-story walkway with his neck stuck between the front door and door jam of his apartment, Esparza said.

The officers freed the man's neck and head from the door jam and began administering CPR until they heard the man's first breath, Esparza said. They continued chest compressions until paramedics arrived and took over.

The man, a longtime San Francisco resident, is in stable condition and expects to make a full recovery, Esparza said.

There was no foul play suspected in the incident, which appeared accidental, Esparza said.
