SF police officer struck by car, injured

A police officer is in serious but stable condition after being hit by a car while he was on foot Monday night.

The officer was in full uniform and out of his vehicle just after 10 p.m. when he was struck while crossing the street at Stockton and Vallejo streets, Officer Brian Oliver said. The driver of the vehicle that struck the officer stopped at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation. Oliver said it was too early to tell whether an arrest would be made.

The officer, who was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, sustained broken bones from the collision and when he struck the ground following being hit, Oliver said.

Oliver could not say why the officer was out of his vehicle. The officer was the only person injured in the incident.
