Tenderloin

Tenderloin, bordered by Geary, Market and Larkin streets

Homicide puzzle: An unidentified man was shot and killed while standing on the sidewalk at Ellis and Larkin streets at 4 a.m. Oct. 3. The few witnesses at the scene during that early hour indicate that the suspects were two men and two women in a compact gray Pontiac sedan.

Central

Financial District, Nob Hill, Chinatown, North Beach, Russian Hill, Telegraph Hill

Santa Rosa sluggers: Two gentlemen visiting from Santa Rosa were arrested on Broadway and Grant Street at 3:33 a.m. Sept. 22 when a police officer broke up their mutual aggravated assault. One fighter was armed with a stick and the other had a bottle.

Groped: A woman was walking to work on Montgomery and Commercial streets at 7:10 a.m. Sept. 27 when a man came alongside her and suddenly grabbed her crotch. The victim screamed and another citizen came to her assistance, helping to detain the suspect until police arrived. The suspect had insufficient identification and was booked.

ATM mugging: A victim withdrew money from an ATM on the 500 block of California at 5:20 a.m. Sept. 27. Two muggers then assaulted the victim and stole $700 from his wallet. One suspect was described as a male age 23 to 28, 5 feet 10 inches tall and 170 pounds.

Richmond

Richmond, most of Golden Gate Park

Car purses: Four reported auto burglaries took place on Sept. 30 in the parking garages around California Pacific Medical Center, 3698 California St., between 6:30 and 11:30 a.m. In three of the four break-ins, purses were taken from the car.

Mission

Mission district, Noe Valley

Bike vigilantes: Neighbors reported hearing strange noises and looked out the window to see a suspect trying to steal a bike from the 600 block of Castro Street at 6:10 a.m. Sept. 22. The witnesses detained the suspect until police arrived.
