S.F. Police Blotter: Neighborhood crime log 

These are excerpts from the San Francisco Police Department's daily log of activities. Incidents are listed by police precincts and the neighborhoods they patrol.

Central

Financial District, Nob Hill, Chinatown, North Beach, Russian Hill, Telegraph Hill

Fare play: Officers arrested three men on suspicion of assaulting a cab driver at Jones and Union streets at midnight May 9. The driver asked the men and a woman to leave his cab after they became abusive. They allegedly responded by attacking him.

Southern

South of Market, China Basin, Embarcadero

Boost bust: Plainclothesmen were working May 3 and assigned to combat numerous auto thefts in the Southern district. The officers set up a surveillance operation and saw a group of young men looking into numerous parked cars.

The young men broke the windows of two parked cars and took items. The officers arrested the suspects before they could get away with the stolen property.

Taraval

Sunset, Parkside, portions of Golden Gate Park

Ask a favor: A shopkeeper was alone in her business on the 1600 block of Irving Street at 8 p.m. May 8 when a man walked in with both hands in his pockets. He suddenly withdrew a large black handgun and pointed it at her, stating, "I need a favor." The phone rang, which apparently startled the suspect, and he fled.

Officers sped to the scene and obtained a description of the suspect. They found the suspect at 19th Avenue and Irving Street and arrested him. The victim identified the suspect. The suspect, who lives on the 100 block of Brookdale Avenue and has prior firearms arrests, was charged with multiple felonies and a misdemeanor warrant.

Ingleside

Glen Park, Bernal Heights, Excelsior, St. Francis Wood

Robbery: A 30-year-old New Mission Terrace man was approached from behind by three other men as he walked on the sidewalk on Ottawa and Huron avenues at 8:45 p.m. May 3. The three men surrounded the first man and one of them demanded his belongings. The victim surrendered his iPod and wallet. The robbers fled on foot.
