S.F. Police Blotter: Neighborhood crime log 

These are excerpts from the San Francisco Police Department's daily log of activities. Incidents are listed by police precincts and the neighborhoods they patrol.

Southern

South of Market, China Basin, Embarcadero

Gym rat: A Sonoma man entered a gym without authorization on the 1-100 block of New Montgomery Street at 7:55 a.m. Aug. 24.

An employee confronted him and the man entered a bathroom on the pretense of using it. A genuine client soon complained that his iPod was missing from the bathroom. The employee and the client returned to the bathroom with the Sonoma man, watching as the suspect produced the missing iPod and pretended to find it in the bathroom wastebasket. The Sonoma man then fled the gym with the employee following him. Foot patrol officers on Market Street were hailed and arrested the perpetrator.

Richmond

Richmond, most of Golden Gate Park

Bizarre break-in: Officers responded to a call of a male trying to break in to a home on the 400 block of 48th Avenue at 1:30 a.m. Aug. 24.

The elderly resident feared for her safety and had locked herself in the bathroom.

Arriving officers saw that the front door was open and the glass on the door had been smashed. As they came in, a male exited the home with blood on his hands.

The victim was found unharmed and told the officers she did not know the suspect, who was charged with vandalism and trespassing.

Central

Financial District, Nob Hill, Chinatown, North Beach, Russian Hill, Telegraph Hill

Arson duo: Two separate arson incidents were fired up last month.

On Aug. 21 at 9:30 p.m., a suspect evicted from his apartment on the 800 block of Sutter Street is believed to have set fire to his room.

Then, on Aug. 27 at 4:15 a.m., a homeless individual was detained after a campfire got out of hand at Sansome and Filbert streets.

Ingleside

Glen Park, Bernal Heights, Excelsior, St. Francis Woo

Benched for assault: Officers cited a San Mateo man for assaulting a teenage boy on the 3400 block of Mission Street while both were sitting on a public bench at 3:15 p.m. Aug. 27.
