James C. Hormel book release: San Francisco philanthropist, activist and former U.S. ambassador to Luxembourg James C. Hormel celebrated his new memoir, “Fit to Serve: The Battle to Become the First Openly Gay U.S. Ambassador,” at a December event at the City Club.

Sonoma State music center offers first peek

Green Music Center Open House: On New Year’s Day, major donors and supporters gathered at the new Green Music Center at Sonoma State University to take a first look at the facility, which is slated to open in September with a performance by pianist Lang Lang in the state-of-the-art Joan and Sanford I. Weill Hall. Sonoma State President Ruben Armiñana, Sanford I. Weill and Donald Green were on hand to talk about upcoming programming, including performances by the Santa Rosa and San Francisco symphonies.
