S.F. motorcycle officer recovering from rear-ender

A San Francisco police officer was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries Tuesday after being struck from behind by a van in the South of Market neighborhood.

The motorcycle officer, who has not been identified, stopped at Seventh and Howard streets at about 10:51 a.m. as an ambulance passed through the intersection. The officer had a green light and the ambulance went through a red light with its sirens going, according to police spokesman Sgt. Wilfred Williams.

A van failed to stop in time for the officer and rammed into the back of his motorcycle. The driver of the van has not been charged with any crime at this time, Williams said.
