Reno man captures San Francisco Marathon title

August Brautigam of Reno, Nev., won his first San Francisco Marathon on Sunday.

Brautigam completed the 26.2-mile course in 2 hours, 32 minutes, 16 seconds to finish first overall and capture the men’s division. Yosuke Maeda finished second, 25 seconds behind Brautigam. Matt Lenehan was third, 2:06 behind.

On the women’s side, Anna Bretan of Berkeley easily repeated as champion, winning in 2:47:50. That was slower than her winning time of last year, 2:42:25. The mother of three also won the 2012 Oakland Marathon. Devon Yanko took second, 1:36 behind Bretan. Rachel Tobey was third, 19:33 off the pace.

More than 25,000 runners participated in the 37th annual race, marathon officials said. Sunday’s event also included a 52.4-mile double marathon, two 5-kilomter races and two half-marathons.
