SF man shot to death in car is city’s 19th homicide of year

A 33-year-old man was shot while sitting in a stopped car in the Bayview district Sunday night, and died at a hospital shortly thereafter.

Shanta Sparks, a city resident, died at San Francisco General Hospital after he was transported around 11:30 p.m. from Third Street and Innes Avenue on Sunday after officers found him suffering from bullet wounds, according to Officer Boaz Mariles.

Sparks was in the car with a woman, who was not hit by the gunfire.

Mariles said police believe the homicide — The City’s 19th this year — was gang-related. However, they have not released any suspect information and no one has been arrested.

The shooting happened about 48 hours after officers found 18-year-old Ilya Yurchenkov of San Francisco shot to death on the 2400 block of Geary Boulevard.

Police took Desmond Wroten, born in 1991, into custody shortly after they found Yurchenkov.
