SF has Census return rate of just 64%

San Franciscans have mailed their Census forms back at a rate of just 64 percent, according to statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Friday, when the statistics were released, was the final day for forms to be mailed back.

The count by the government is critical since federal funds are allocated based on the numbers.

Mayor Gavin Newsom successfully challenged the 2007 Census population count for The City, increasing the official population as well as bringing in more federal dollars.
