Mexican independence: The Mexican Museum is celebrating Mexican Independence Day with free arts-and-crafts workshops for families. A great hike

Sweeney vista: There are several ways to hike up to Sweeney Ridge, but the 5-mile (round-trip) trail from Pacifica’s Shelldance Orchid Nursery has nonstop ocean views. Starting from Mori Ridge Trail, ascend a path with unobstructed ocean views. After a mile and a half, head right onto the Sweeney Ridge Trail for views of Bay Area peaks: Montara, Diablo, Tam and even the Farallones, 30 miles offshore.
