Seeds continue to be planted in first round 

Another seeded player bit the dust at the San Francisco Tennis Classic.

Fourth-seeded Julie Ditty of Ashland, Ky., lost to Eva Hrdinova of the Czech Republic 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 Wednesday in the first round of the USTA event at Golden Gateway Tennis and Swim Club. Ditty joins three other seeded players who lost Tuesday. Also falling was former Stanford star Amber Liu, who dropped a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 decision to Jelena Pandzic of Croatia.

Two seeded players advanced: Fifth-seeded Varvara Lepchenko of Allentown, Pa., stopped Hilary Barte of Newhall 6-3, 6-3 and sixth-seeded Marie-Eve Pelletier beat Ashley Weinhold of Austin, Texas, 6-3, 6-0.

In doubles, the top-seeded team of Ditty and Sunitha Rao was upset by Surina de Beer and Kim Grant 7-5, 6-2. Also, Ashley Harkleroad and Chanda Rubin teamed up to beat Anna Fitzpatrick and Ana Veselinovic 6-4, 3-6 (10-4).
