Security guard shot with pellet gun, responds with bullets

A security guard discharged his firearm at two suspected auto burglars who reportedly shot him in the back with a pellet gun near the North Beach neighborhood on Monday night.

No one was seriously injured in the incident, which occurred at about 10:40 p.m. in the area of Francisco and Leavenworth streets, police said.

The 29-year-old private security guard reportedly saw the suspects, described as 19-year-old men, breaking into vehicles in the area and began following them. The thieves got in a vehicle and began driving away, police said, but as they departed the security guard felt a sting on his back. In reaction, the guard reportedly pulled out his gun and shot at the suspects.

No one was hit by the gunfire, and the security guard wasn't seriously injured by the pellet gun blast.

Thankfully, police said, officers arrived at the scene at the same time as the suspects were driving away. The suspects were detained.

Further information about the incident, including the suspects' identities, wasn't immediately available.
