Second suspect sought in fatal nightclub shooting

Police are looking for a second possible suspect in the Sunday morning shooting at a nightclub at Fisherman’s Wharf that left one dead and four others injured.

Lawon Hall, 19, of Richmond was shot and killed early Sunday morning after a gunman opened fire on a crowd standing outside Suede nightclub located on the 300 block of Bay Street. According to police, there was a verbal altercation inside the club before the shooting occurred at about 1:40 a.m.

“I don’t have it piece-by-piece, but there was a verbal altercation that spilled out into the street and the shooter shot into the crowd,” said Sgt. Wilfred Williams.

The suspected gunman, who was described only as a black male in his 20s, was then shot and injured by a special patrol officer and later arrested.

Two other victims were taken to a local hospital with life threatening injuries and two more people, including the suspect, have non-life threatening injuries, Williams said.

Williams said police still do not know whether the shooter and victims, who are also from Richmond, knew one another or if it was a gang-related shooting. He also could not say whether the suspected gunman had a criminal history.

On Sunday afternoon, investigators were still trying to piece together what happened earlier and the motive for the shooting.

They now believe there may have been a second suspect involved in the shooting, and police are asking any witnesses to call the San Francisco Police Department anonymous tip line: (415) 575-4444 or send a text message to TIP411SFPD.
