SCORE to expand assistance to local businesses

A San Francisco small-business mentoring and training group is expanding to help local businesses address the economic challenges they face.

SCORE “Counselors to America’s Small Business” will increase its counselor force by 30 percent and launch enhanced business programs. Additionally, more woman and minority counselors are actively advising clients and reaching out to the small-business community.

The San Francisco office is the flagship chapter among the 364 nationwide that serve as resource partners with the U.S. Small Business Administration.

“There are profound changes in the numbers of entrepreneurs exploring small businesses, the demographics and the sheer innovation and concepts emerging,” says Ron Schmidt, chairman of SCORE San Francisco. “We’re seeing an influx of veteran small-business owners confronted by a myriad of challenges in what is arguably the most daunting economic climate in decades.”
