Scoop: Prince William said to be ready to propose

Is Britain gearing up for another royal wedding — and a new princess? Almost two decades after the nuptials of his late mother, Princess Diana, and father, Prince Charles, transfixed the nation, Prince William is said to be planning to propose to longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton. An insider tells People magazine that an engagement is “a given. It’s just a question of when.”

Oddsmakers are offering 1-to-2 chances that a proposal will happen soon. “We’ve seen quite a bit of money, suggesting an engagement is imminent,” a betting-house rep said.

The couple is even acting like they’re already related by law. During a recent jaunt to the French Alps, they lunched with Kate’s parents and William was heard to call her father “dad.”

Despite all the pressure on them, this couple actually seems like the real deal. Let’s hope Kate gets her prince — and is welcomed into the royal family with open arms.

Jon: Miscommunication

Jon Gosselin’s battle for custody of his eight kids may be over before it even started — and it seems he’s not even sure he wanted to start it in the first place.

Since ex-wife Kate was kicked off “Dancing With the Stars,” putting an end to her long hours in rehearsal, the argument about her being an absentee mom doesn’t seem to hold as much water — although Jon’s lawyer insisted to TMZ, “‘Dancing with the Stars’ is just the tip of the iceberg for Kate, as surely there will be many other projects to take its place soon. She’s always promoting something ... and most of the time it’s herself.”

But Thursday, Jon tweeted that he had fired said attorney last week. And he told TMZ personally that the court papers seeking primary custody were filed by the recently dismissed dude without his permission, saying, “I never wanted primary custody, he filed for that. I only wanted a more flexible custody schedule so I could be with my kids.”

Jon, it’s really a good idea to know what the people who represent you in court are saying. But with that said, we agree that Kate should let you see the kids when she’s working.

Elin Alone

We thought Elin Nordegren was going to stick it out in her marriage. But as more and more revelations about hubby Tiger Woods’ infidelities rolled in, apparently the tide turned.

A divorce is “100 percent happening,” a source told Us magazine. “It’s going to take a long time to go through. [But] she will go through with it. She is all about being a mom. She will do it slowly and carefully.”

The model and her two children are currently visiting her Swedish homeland with family — while Tiger stays behind in the U.S. — and “Elin and her mom met with a lawyer before they went to Sweden,” the insider said.

A property she recently bought in the country is under “nonstop construction,” the insider said. “She is definitely planning on spending a lot of time there — they are gutting it.” And it’s a rush job, as “she and the kids are going to be spending most of the summer there — without Tiger.”

Meanwhile, the golfer has been living it up stateside, taking in a Nickelback concert in Florida on Monday night and “partying backstage” with the band afterward, per TMZ.

Gee. Glad to see Tiger’s learned from the error of his ways.
